About us

Karuna was established in 1980 and is administered by Western Buddhists, but the projects are open to anyone regardless of background. Our projects promote dignity and self-confidence, and the breaking down of caste and religious barriers. Karuna is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Compassionate Action Based on Wisdom’.
