KARUNA 03

Introduction

Dear Friend

It gives me great pleasure to present this report on Karuna's work.

At a time when there is so much conflict and suffering in the world, it feels a privilege to be involved in something that is having such a positive effect on so many people's lives.

Over the past five years our income has grown steadily and we have been able to expand our funding, reaching many more people; for example a school for orphans and refugees in the Chittagong Hill District of Bangladesh, and a hostel for homeless street children in Calcutta. The current newsletter covers some of our newer projects as well as some of our longer standing ones.

We continue to work alongside our Indian partners; helping them develop skills such as planning, accounting, and local fundraising so' that they can build strong, effective organisations that will have a lasting effect in alleviating poverty and finding their own solutions to the problems of poverty, caste and prejudice.

I hope that, reading the stories and interviews in this report you will share my sense of delight at what is being achieved with your support.

With kind regards and many thanks,

Dr. William Stones
Chairman of the Karuna Trust
