This project puts education at the centre of their activities. A live-in hostel provides a home for 36 boys who are orphaned or from extremely poor families.
Amravati is the fifth largest city in Maharashtra with a population of around 650,000.
Two educational hostels for 58 boys and girls from extremely poor families are working to support and improve education in the region. Activities include study support classes, cultural and sports activities, leadership development and careers advice and guidance. Women also receive vocational training. Many Dalit women from local slum areas have been trained in sewing and fashion design as well as in beauty parlor skills and many have begun to earn a decent living. The women’s achievements have a ripple effect, raising the quality of life for their families and increasing the respect they receive within their families.
